CONFERENCE PLANNED FOR FALL 2004

Looking for a fun way to get involved with the VRA?   We need some new folks to step forward with our next conference -- some of our lead conference organizers for past events have moved on.

We need at least 10 members to work on our Fall Conference Committee.   We will have our first meeting in March. Contact Georgiana Ball if interested. Volunteers are needed for the following:

  • Promoting the conference

  • Securing a location and setting up logistics

  • Staffing the registration desk

  • Contacting potential exhibitors

  • Developing a social activity/fundraiser

  • Running the silent auction/collecting donations

  • Assisting with the VRA awards program

Feel free to come forward with your own conference ideas and make the VRA fundraiser a great success!

CAN YOUR LITTER

“Save A Critter . . . Can Your Litter!” is the message being shared with children via a pleasing rhyme and a cast of fun, playful critters headed up by a mischievous raccoon named Rigsby in a new children’s book by the same name.  For the entire story, please click here.

Board Meeting

The next meeting of the VRA Board of Directors will be held March 3, 2004 from 10 am to 2 pm at the office of CVWMA (in Richmond).  Share your concerns about recycling and see how you can get involved.

Board Vacancies

Due to resignations and ends of terms, there are several vacancies to be filled on the 9-member Board of Directors.  If you are interested in becoming more active in the VRA, contact Georgiana Ball and  consider attending our March 3 meeting.

General Assembly

Several items now pending before the 2004 General Assembly could impact the solid waste industry. Read a summary of bills introduced at press time.  For the entire story, please click here.

Other News

Congratulations and best wishes to Jennifer DeLong Harris, VRA Board member and Recycling Specialist for the City of Alexandria. Jennifer will begin an exciting new position later this month with the City's Office on Women.  Jennifer has been very active as  2001 and 2002 Conference Chair, Vice President and America Recycles Day Coordinator.  We will miss her valuable contributions to the Association, but wish her continued success.

 About the VRA

The Virginia Recycling Association (VRA) was formed in 1990 by a group of individuals committed to expanding state recycling opportunities. Since then, the VRA has become a leading resource of information for members, the general public, local governments, the  General Assembly, business and industry. The organization is guided by a diverse Board of Directors that reflects the membership.
