STATE
DEVELOPING ELECTRONIC WASTE TASK FORCE
In an effort to assist
Virginia state agencies, localities and citizens in the proper
handling of electronic wastes (eWaste) such as computers and
related peripherals, audio units, cell phones, and televisions,
the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will
soon solicit interested parties to serve on an advisory committee
on eWaste.
The purpose of the advisory
committee is to identify the existing infrastructure available
to Virginians for the collection and recycling of these materials,
to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses of the infrastructure,
to review and comment on the regulatory framework which affects
such recycling, and to offer recommendations to DEQ on how
to maximize the recycling of this material in the future.
The first meeting of the advisory committee is expected to
be in late April (meeting time and date to be determined).
Interested parties should
contact Steve Coe at DEQ: (804) 698-4029 or
gscoe@deq.state.va.us.
In addition, Virginia communities
are beginning to take more proactive steps towards managing
electronic waste. See "Electronics Collections"
