Recognizes April as Electronics Recycling Month in Resolution
WHEREAS, Article
IX of the Virginia Constitution decrees that it is the
policy of the Commonwealth of Virginia to protect its
atmosphere, lands and waters from pollution, impairment
or destruction for the benefit, enjoyment and general
welfare of the people of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, electronic
devices such as computers and televisions contain materials
that can be hazardous to human health and the environment
if they are not properly managed; and
WHEREAS, many
Commonwealth of Virginia communities have taken a leading
role in the area of recycling by helping to establish
electronics collection events that afford citizens and
businesses in the Commonwealth the opportunity to recycle
used devices; and
WHEREAS, the 36th Anniversary of Earth Day will be observed
April 22, 2006 to promote environmental awareness and
citizen action;
NOW,
THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize April
2006 as “Electronics Recycling Month” in the
COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to
the attention of all our citizens.
