Virginia Recycles Day 2007

VIRGINIA PRIZES
The VRA will award two grand prizes this year by a random drawing of all pledge cards received. One adult and one youth will each be awarded $250 which they can donate to a local environmental charity of their choice. It could be a local school's environmental club, a litter program, a clean water program, local recycling office, etc.

ARD has an online pledge form. If you are still interested in using paper pledge cards at your events, AR will soon provide us with a design that I can email to you. Completed pledge cards should be mailed to VRA, P.O. Box 2107, Midlothian, VA 23113 by November 23rd.

To call an event an "America Recycles" event you need to:

a) promote recycling in some way

b) recognize the "America Recycles" campaign in some way.

Ideas include:

  -  hanging the AR posters in the location where your event or outreach will occur

  -  encouraging participation in the AR pledge contest

  -  including the AR logo on your promotional pieces (newspaper ads, flyers, website, etc)

BACKGROUND
America Recycles Day(ARD) is a national campaign to promote recycling. The heart of the ARD campaign are thousands of local pledge drives where recycling coordinators encourage people to fill out a pledge card to recycle more and buy more recycled products in the coming year. The act of pledging or making a commitment is an effective communications tactic in raising awareness about issues like recycling. Last year in Virginia we collected over 3,000 pledges and are on target to collect even more this year. VRA is a state coordinator for the campaign.
